Wishes

Wishes, like fishes, are quite elusive,
some are quite common, others exclusive.
A few are exotic, many prosaic,
put them together, they’re very mosaic,
reflecting the rainbow, its colors and hues,
a myriad blend of pastels and blues.
Catching a wish fish really excites us,
makes us feel clever, thrills and delights us.
But, on the other hand, if it eludes us,
suddenly showing irascible rudeness,
we overreact to the fact, feeling quite cheated
when the catch we thought caught is gone and deleted.
This wonderful won thing we meant to accrue,
this incredible fun thing is gone from our view,
slipping away in a bubbly fizz
as we cry, or sigh, or whisper ‘gee whiz’.
